Divinity Original Sin 2 is renowned for its intricate environmental puzzles and challenging tactical encounters scattered throughout the realm of Rivellon. Among the many unique side quests located in Act 2, A Trial for All Seasons offers a clever mix of elemental riddle solving and intense combat. Players who locate the mysterious shrine east of the Driftwood Fields waypoint can test their mastery over the elements and earn valuable rewards.

Finding and Starting the Trial

To begin the quest, players must navigate to the ancient structure located east of the Driftwood Fields waypoint. At the center of this shrine stands a brazier known as The Tongue of Flame. Interacting with this entity and agreeing to take the trial triggers a cryptic riddle regarding four seasonal trees surrounding the central altar.

Solving the Elemental Tree Riddle

The core objective of the first phase requires applying specific elemental statuses to the four surrounding trees. To satisfy the Hero of Spring, players must cover the area with a blood surface using abilities like Blood Rain or Flesh Sacrifice. The Hero of Summer demands a fire cloud, which can be easily generated using spells such as Laser Ray.

Satisfying the Hero of Autumn requires creating an electrified steam cloud by combining water, fire, and an air spell like Electric Discharge. Finally, the Hero of Winter tree needs to be struck with freezing ice magic to create an ice surface. Once all four trees begin glowing with magical energy, the puzzle portion is complete.

Defeating the Seasonal Challengers

Successfully activating the trees immediately triggers a tough battle against four elemental warriors representing each season. Each challenger possesses high damage capabilities and immunity to their corresponding element. Focusing on physical damage or using opposite elemental weaknesses allows players to defeat these foes efficiently.

Quest Completion and Rewards

Defeating all four seasonal opponents yields a substantial total of 10,400 experience points for your party. In addition to experience, players receive the Phoenix Heart item upon finishing the quest. If consumed by an Elf character, the Phoenix Heart grants the Flaming Tongues skill, making it a particularly useful reward for Pyrokinetic builds.
